Summerfest will return in 3-weekend format with attendance up by 40%
Wisconsin—Because it’s getting so popular, Summerfest will be back for three weekends in 2024.
Yesterday, the group that runs Summerfest said that between 2022 and 2023, the number of people who went grew by an amazing 40%.
More than 600 bands played at Summerfest, which had 624,407 visitors throughout the weekend.
Think Dragons, Zach Bryan, and the Zac Brown Band all played live at the American Family Insurance Amphitheater, which was packed with people.
Summerfest officials also reported a doubling in the number of nine-day pass sales in 2023.
Over 50,000 free passes were given out this year, which meant that 17% of Summerfest attendees got in for free.

By selling 66 million album equivalents, 55 million digital tracks, and 110 billion total streams, Imagine Dragons has made a big impact on the music business.
For songs like “Radioactive,” “Believer,” “Demons,” and “Thunder,” which have sold over 10 million copies, they are known as “the only band in history to earn four RIAA Diamond singles.” Beginning with their first album in 2009, each of their subsequent albums has debuted in the top ten of the Billboard 200. Because it’s the 55th year of the festival, Miller products will be $5.50 every day from 4 to 5 p.m. There is also a special item made just for Summerfest 55 that will not be sold in stores and will only be given to the first 10,000 people who arrive on opening day.

Who owns Summerfest?
Milwaukee World Festival, Inc., is the owner of certain trade names, trademarks, service marks, and logos, including, Summerfest, the “smile logo”, the Big Gig, The World’s Largest Music Festival, and the Summerfest Rock ‘n Sole (“Trademarks”).
Apparently, Gurda says that the area was always flooding before the first landfill project began in the 1870s. One of the first Summerfests held near the lake was one I went to. There were temporary stages on the grounds, which looked like a mud hole.
A railroad yard along the lake used to be where Summerfest is now held. Things changed when airplanes became popular in the 1920s. Milwaukee’s first airport was built and named Maitland Field after a local pilot who flew the first transpacific flight. Between 1927 and the end of World War II, the airfield was put to use.
Gurda says that the area changed again in 1956 when it was turned into a Nike bastion for anti-aircraft missiles. According to Gurda, the goal was to catch Soviet bombers if they were flying over the North Pole. He also mentioned how important the area was for many Milwaukee youth group vacations.
Summerfest was created by leaders in the community in 1968. As a permanent home, the lakefront property was chosen in 1970. As Gurda wrote in his autobiography, “Sly and the Family Stone were the main attraction, and Sly stayed backstage for a long time.” “This caused unrest among attendees, leading to confrontations and even chair-throwing incidents, reflecting the early, tumultuous days of Summerfest.”
