Daytona Bike Week 2018 Final Day
Daytona is getting ready for another great bike week, which starts on March 9. The city, on the other hand, has a lot of motorbikes already. When you hear the sound of motors revving, the party starts.
I am sorry to say that I have seen a big drop in the number of performance motorbike fans at Bike Week. The Wyotech Horsepower Shootout, the Hess Station, and the exciting street races on Rt. Ninety-two are all things of the past.
Still, I’d like to offer an invitation in the hopes that there are still unique owner-modified motorcycles or home-built turbo bikes available. You can find me at the Starbucks on the corner of A1A and Granada during bike week. It’s on the beachside north side of Daytona (actually in Ormond Beach, which is just across the line from Daytona), next to the park called the “Birthplace of Speed.” I’ll be there all week, ready to talk to people and tell them stories.

Harley-Davidson Announces Event Schedule For 2018 Daytona Bike Week

In honor of its 115th birthday, Harley-Davidson is going to open the Harley Headquarters at the famous Daytona International Speedway. The first race was the Daytona 200, which took place on January 24, 1937. At that time, the course had both a beach and 3.2 miles of roads. The winner was Ed Kretz from California. He rode an Indian motorbike at an average speed of 73.34 mph.
Once it started, the event went on every year, except from 1942 to 1947, when it stopped because of World War II. There was no official event, but there was a casual get-together called “Bike Week” at the same time. “Big Bill” France, one of the founders of NASCAR, pushed for the race to happen again in 1947.

The first official Gypsy Tours in America were set up by the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) in 1935. This is where the Laconia Motorcycle Week gathering got its start. Since then, it has become a well-known event where motorbike fans and riders from all over the world come to experience the long history of motorcycle culture and friendship.
