What a Celebration! YAY for Fair Start for Kids!
WFIS was happy to be there with over 200 community supporters, childcare providers, moms, and families this morning, May 7, to witness the signing of the Fair Start for Kids Act. At the event, there was a huge group of people who had been pushing for years. The events started with a moving movie that showed how important child care is and how hardworking people who work in child care are.
Activists spoke out during the whole session of parliament about how important early education and good parenting are as basic solutions to many problems in the community. Senator Billig made his point stronger. Senator Wilson stressed that the Fair Start Act is mainly an economic recovery program that helps families from all walks of life. He also said that childcare workers have always been an important part of the community.
Before signing this important law into law, Governor Jay Inslee made a statement that today is Childcare Provider Awareness Day in Washington. People who work in daycare are very important to society, and the governor called them “ordinary heroes.” He knew that their help and care for our kids keeps the state’s economy going and that they make our families stronger.
