They are known as “The Legends of Apollo.” These stars will lead the Parade as NASA prepares for the next wave of moonwalkers via the future Artemis mission. This Memorial Day procession, sponsored by Boeing, is the largest in the country, offering a moving timeline of American history. Celebrities, entertainers, active-duty military personnel, historical reenactors, and military veterans will all attend the event to celebrate and salute the men and women who have given their lives to the United States of America.
AVC President Tim Holbert stated, “They symbolize America’s shared values of service and sacrifice, and their achievements inspire hope for Americans’ potential as we look to the future.” He was pleased to announce the return of this beloved holiday tradition and greeted the Grand Marshals warmly.
The Grand Marshals are Harrison “Jack” Schmidt (lunar module pilot on Apollo 17), Charlie Duke (lunar module pilot on Apollo 16), and Russell “Rusty” Schweickart (lunar module pilot on Apollo 9). This historic event will include Duke and Schmidt, two of the four living men who have walked on the moon (Schmidt is the last person to have set foot on the surface).
Honored heroes from World War II to the present will also march in the National Memorial Day Parade to remember those who fought and died for our country.
