What triggers Telstra day pass?
A Day Pass charge is automatically applied when you use your services overseas in eligible destinations. Usage includes making or receiving a call, sending an SMS or using mobile data. The International Day Pass is available to you as a Telstra Consumer or Small Business Post-Paid Mobile customer.
The Day Pass system from Telstra lets postpaid customers with Upfront plans and some users with older plan types travel freely in other countries. Since 2021, upfront plans have been the norm for new Telstra prepaid customers, and people who were on older plan types have been slowly switched to the newer ones.
People in Zone 1 (New Zealand) will have to pay $5 a day for 1GB of internet. Over 70 countries are in Zone 2, and a 1GB plan costs $10 per day. In Zone 2 countries, a $10 daily fee lets you talk and write as much as you want but not send or receive data.
You can only use 1GB of data per day with the Telstra Day Pass. You can’t roll over your data. Any data that isn’t used every day expires at midnight AEST, not at midnight in the country that is being viewed. If the daily 1GB cap is reached, Telstra will add an extra 1GB for $10 for the next 31 days. This extra space is only used on days when the daily cap of 1GB is reached. The Day Pass also lets you make as many calls as you want and send regular SMS messages. However, MMS messages cost 75 cents per receiver per message. The Day Pass is used if international roaming is turned on for the Telstra account and a phone is used abroad on any given day.
How do I activate My Telstra day pass?

You’ll get text message alerts at 50%, 85%, and 100% of your allowed amount to keep you up to date on your spending. For every $100 of pay-as-you-go mobile you use over your set limit, you will get extra alerts. You can use the My Telstra app on your phone to get an International Day Pass. Before you use the International Day Pass, make sure that roaming is turned on in your phone’s settings.
You can use the International Day Pass while you’re in Australia. You will only be charged when you use your phone outside of Australia again. The pass is valid as soon as you enable it on your service. Once you’ve used up your daily 1GB of data, you’ll get an extra $10 every day for the next 31 days. This extra data backup is there for you until it runs out when you use more data than your daily limit.
