People from all walks of life, including pioneers, cattlemen, and everyone else, thought horses were important to the success of a growing country.
The Shire horse breed stands out from the others because it is the biggest. Some stallions of this breed of draft horse grow to be an amazing 17 hands tall. They are much taller than the Falabella, which only grows to be eight hands tall, making it the smallest breed of Horse.
The amazing thing about horses is that they can see almost everywhere. Because they have such good eyesight, there are small blank spots in front of and behind them, which makes it hard to sneak up on them. You should be careful when coming up behind them because their strong back legs can do a lot of damage if they decide to kick to protect themselves. Horses can see very well, but they get scared or distracted quickly. Trainers often put blinders or blinkers on horses’ harnesses to help them focus their eyes forward and lessen their ability to see around them.

What is India horse?

India has five native horse breeds: the Manipuri, the Zanskari, the Kathiawari, and the Marwari. The Marwari and Kathiawari are famous for having “lyre” ears that can turn 180 degrees and bend inward. This makes them stand out from other horse breeds around the world. Experts in the field say these horses are strong, thin, athletic, loyal, and able to handle all kinds of weather. The Zanskari and Spiti breeds are tough mountain ponies. The Manipuri breed, on the other hand, is thought to be the perfect polo horse because of how agile it is.
In India, the huge size of Marwari and Kathiawari horses is useful for many things, but most famously as a classy way for grooms to get around during wedding festivities. Raghuvendra Singh Dundlod, who is the Secretary-General of the Indigenous Horse Society of India, thinks that these horses are perfectly suited for endurance and that they could compete with Arab types if they had the chance. These breeds are becoming more famous because they can tent-peg and are used on horse safaris around the world. There are also a number of state-mounted police teams that use these breeds in their work.
Indian horses are becoming more and more famous around the world. Still, the government won’t let them leave India because the Marwari and Kathiawari breeds are in danger of going extinct. Even though the government did an animal census in 2007, Dundlod says that not all of the 24,000 Marwaris and 44,000 Kathiawaris in the country are purebred.
The ban on exports makes it harder to market Indian horses in other countries. In 2000, strict rules were put in place after only six Marwaris were brought to the United States. It is possible to get a young Marwari or Kathiawari horse for more than 3 lakh rupees. Catherine Moorey, Chair of Friends of Marwari and Kathiawari Horse, UK, talks about how hard it is to bring in native horse breeds from India, where prices are often set by wealthy people’s wants, making these horses important “status symbols” in some circles.

In the Vedas, horses often represent the Sun and its yearly course, associated with the wandering of the horse in the Ashwamedha Yagnya. The horse is also said to be analogous to the Prajapati-Agni or to the Purusha as the Creator, or to Varuna. The horse in the Vedas also symbolizes energy.
Moorey’s research shows that Indian horse breeders and their peers around the world need to work together to protect the Indian bloodline. She notices that horse riders from all over the world are giving Indian breeders information on conformation problems, both good and bad, that may not have been fully looked into in India before. Horse riders with a lot of experience who have brought in and tamed foreign breeds in the past are giving India important information that will help them avoid making the same mistakes in the future.
Several groups have set breed standards for the five Indian horse breeds in order to protect them. The Ministry of Agriculture’s Department of Animal Husbandry recently pushed for a separate Marwari Horse Registration Stud Book Society to make sure that all purebred animals are registered according to the standards of that breed. Raghuvendra Singh Dundlod from the Ministry of Agriculture said, “The Indigenous Horse Society of India started the first horse registration and passport system in 1997, using a format that is recognized around the world; we continue to work together with local breeders.”
There are currently discussions going on about this subject. These ideas have been criticized by many horse groups, which have told the government to create a single “indigenous stud book authority of India.”
