When Is Ligonier Days 2022 – Since the mid-1990s, Tom Stablein has been parade chairman, and it’s clear that he loves helping to get Fort Ligonier Days ready every year. Stablein thought back on the event and said he was surprised at how well the fair went in such a big town. From Friday to Sunday, October 13–15, downtown Ligonier will host Fort Ligonier Days. There will be live music, historical events in the Fort, great food, entertainment, and more.
Stablein told everyone that this year’s celebrations would be very different: there would be more food sellers. These vendors, who are on the west side of town near Mellon Park, give the event a new perspective by serving food other than The Diamond.
The craft and food shops open at 9 a.m. on Friday, which marks the beginning of the celebrations. Fort Ligonier is open every day at 10 a.m. and costs a standard fee to enter. The address is 200 S. Market St. There will also be sidewalk sales in the area, and Shirley Dragovich will perform live on the Mack Darr Stage on West Main Street to add to the happy mood. The official opening event for The Diamond is set to start at noon.
Ligonier gearing up for three-day festival
Downtown Ligonier will be open for Fort Ligonier Days on Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. In honor of the British and their colonial allies’ military win at Fort Ligonier on October 12, 1758, this three-day event is being held.
During the celebrations, people can enjoy a lively procession, a 5K race or walk, over 300 juried artisan vendors, 40 food booths, musical acts, and wine and spirit tastings, among other things. “Ligonier Valley has a certain magic,” claimed Jack McDowell, who is in charge of the event. As for that particular problem, I’m still determining where it came from, but our situation fits the bill.
One of the best parts of the event is the Saturday procession, which starts at 11 a.m. There will be marching teams, veteran’s groups, military reenactors, high school bands, and well-known characters from the area in the parade. “The parade is amazing,” McDowell said, stressing how important it was. Due to its huge fame, it is one of the main reasons people go to the event, if not the main reason.
Fort Ligonier Days kicks off
Folks from all over the world visit the small town of Ligonier every year to enjoy tasty food, unique gifts, and fun activities. Every year, the event gets bigger and better. More than 50 food vendors and more than 200 craft sellers are in the most recent version.
Jack McDowell, head of Fort Ligonier Days, said, “We can’t explain it, but it always feels like there is magic here, and people love to come here.” He also mentioned that the number of guests had grown.
Many of the people who come to this event look forward to it every year. Finally, Sandy Stemmler said, “My daughter comes from Maryland to join me. We do this every year together, so it’s a tradition for us.” Valen Lowry says this is one of her favorite times of the year. “The merchants in our town say they wouldn’t make it through winter if it weren’t for Ligonier Days,” co-chair Tom Stablein said, highlighting how important the event is for store owners in the area.
Fort Ligonier Days event brings ‘roots of … America’ to life
For Fort Ligonier Days, which happen every year, hundreds of people came together on Sunday to bring the ancient site to life. No matter if it rained or not, tourists and reenactors remembered the Battle of Fort Ligonier by acting out what happened 265 years ago.
Real black powder cannons and rifle bursts played in the background as reenactors successfully reenacted General John Forbes’ British troops, driving back the French invaders. The fact that the Scottish friends were reenactors in kilts who played bagpipes during the battle made the event seem more real.
Aside from being important in history, the fight of October 12, 1758, was also important for the British victory in the French and Indian War, which was part of the larger Seven Years’ War. Fort Duquesne was the closest Fort to the capital of the French empire. Less than a month after the fight at Fort Ligonier, the British took control of it. With this victory, the British took over Pittsburgh as we know it today and important trade lines all over North America.
Fort Ligonier Days marches on as ‘go-to’ fall event for many families
Many people see Fort Ligonier Days as a homecoming, no matter where they are from in the Ligonier Valley. It brings back memories and traditions. For example, Joyce Mowery’s family has been going to this party every year for almost thirty years.
“This is kind of a tradition,” Mowery, who was born in Clarksburg, told her nephew Jordan Hauser, who lives in Greensburg, on Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Hauser said, “It’s kind of new to me,” referring to the fact that she had not been to the event in almost 25 years. “What a nice surprise.”
Mowery’s mother, Josephine Meholic of Latrobe, who is 97 years old, and other family members also came to Ligonier for the three-day party. A huge crowd is expected to line Main Street at 11 a.m. today, which is the festival’s peak. Even though she’s looking forward to an exciting event, Mowery likes how things are slower and less crowded on Friday.
Traditions celebrated during Fort Ligonier Days festival

One of the cars in the show is a rare 1931 DeVaux that Bill and Carolyn Krall of Latrobe carefully fixed up. The high school bands from Greensburg Salem, Franklin Regional, Jeannette, Ligonier Valley, and Greater Latrobe will also play.

Fort Ligonier offers free on-site parking. If our parking lot is full, a metered (25 cents per half hour) lot is located adjacent to the Fort. Parking is also available along the side streets and throughout town. Handicapped accessible parking spaces are available close to the Museum entrance.

Festival managers, vendors, volunteers, and others are busy making last-minute plans for Fort Ligonier Days, which will happen from October 13 to 15th every year. The Ligonier Valley Chamber of Commerce Business@Breakfast, put together by Fort Ligonier and Carol & Dave’s Roadhouse on Wednesday, was an event that has been going on for a long time. Before the fair, businesses could ask questions and make comments. They could also get updates from members of Fort Ligonier Days, Inc. on what was going to happen over the weekend.
It will still close at 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, with no entertainment or fireworks in the evenings, as planned last year. In the past year, this change was made. These changes were made to address worries that got worse when people drank, as well as for safety and security reasons.

Fort Ligonier Days are over, and we want to thank everyone who had a great time. First and foremost, we want to thank all the residents who may have been affected by the event. Please know that the Fort Ligonier Days Committee works hard to make sure that any problems are kept to a minimum.
More police were sent to help keep things under control, and Ligonier Valley Police Chief Michael Matrunics led full foot and car patrols of the festival grounds. It also helped that the Mutual Aid Ambulance Service had more people ready to act quickly and save lives.
We also want to thank the Ligonier Borough Council, Jan Shaw, the Secretary/Treasurer, and Ron Ross, the Public Works Director, and his whole team for working so hard all weekend to keep our neighborhood looking nice. The Pennsylvania Civil Air Patrol helped with cleanup by making sure trash was taken away properly during the day. McInchok Sanitation of Ligonier made sure all the trash got to the right place to be thrown away.
Claudine DePaul, who lives in Monroeville and works at Trib Total Media, has been an active part of the festival’s planning team for seven years. “We’ve handled their program at the Trib in recent years, so I gradually became more engaged, attending committee meetings,” she said about her job. When I work with people, I really enjoy it. While I can help during the day, many volunteers put in a lot of time and effort after work to make sure the event is a success.
A parade on East and West Main Street on Saturday at 11 a.m., a 5K run and walk on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. at Ligonier Valley High School, and a variety of performers and historical talks are just a few of the festival’s highlights. Stablein says that the event began when President Dwight Eisenhower went to Ligonier in 1958 to celebrate the town’s 200th birthday.
“Recognizing its significance, they decided to continue the tradition the following year, officially naming it Fort Ligonier Days in 1960.” Stablein also said that over the years, she had gotten encouraging texts from strange places.
